A poet, author, teacher, and 2017 KQED Arts San Francisco Bay Woman to Watch, Janice Lobo Sapigao (she/her) is a daughter of Filipino immigrants that raised her in San José. Janice’s writings are based in her experiences as a Filipina American. She believes in community work and organizing and recognizes their influence in her writing. In 2020, she was named the sixth Santa Clara Valley Poet Laureate. During her time as poet laureate, Sapigao exhibited her connection to working with young writers by founding the Santa Clara County youth poet laureate program. Sapigao is the author of Microchips for millions that speaks about immigrant women workers in Silicon Valley, and like a solid to a shadow, about her father, family, and learning Ilokano.
