BIO:
Arlene Biala (she/her) is a native Bay Area Pinay, wife, mother of three and poet who has worked and performed locally for over 30 years. Born in San Francisco and raised in the South Bay Area, she has influenced arts administrators and artists throughout the Santa Clara County with her performances, and through poetry and creative writing workshops with youth. In 2016 and 2017, Biala was selected as Santa Clara’s Poet Laureate. She is the author of bone (1993), continental drift (1999), her beckoning hands (2014) and one inch punch (2018). In 1996, she began working in the arts community as the arts education and grants program manager for the City of San José Office of Cultural Affairs. She retired in 2021.
